Priego´s festivals bring us closer to old
times feelings, preserving the vitality of a village that regards
its traditions with wise eyes.
One of the maximum touristic interest events
is Easter. Numerous Brotherhoods march in a procession filled with
beauty and emotion. One of the most celebrated moments in Priego
is Good Friday morning when Jesus arrives to the Calvary, led by
an imposing mass of people who struggle to get a good location in
the event. In the Mountain of the Calvary here in Priego,
thousands of people receive the blessing rising over their heads
the humble and symbolic hen-shaped bread called hornazo.

Spring festivals are held in May, with the festival of the Crosses
and May Sundays, with raffles and colourful processions every
weekend. One of the most beautiful festival is the conmemoration
of the Corpus Christi. This procession crosses the Villa
Neighbourhood, which obtaines the maximum splendor with flowers in
whiteness. Some streets are covered withg beautiful carpets of
flowers.
In the third Sunday in June the pilgrimage of the Virgin "De la
Cabeza", which makes its way to the Sierra Cristina between songs
and popular dances.
During the month of August you can see the International Festival
of Music, Dramatic Art and Dance, which have been being scheduled
since 1948.

Closing the festival calendar the busy Royal Festival is
celebrated in the last days of August.
The
fair is filled with colorful fair huts where you can dance day and
night, no stop.

the traditions that survive in Priego

The Brothers of the Aurora and the troubadours.
The Brothers of the Aurora is a Brotherhood whose foundation dates
back to the
16th century, and every saturday night they gather at streets and
squares, singing popular songs of ancient flavour.
The troubadours were poets who sung improvised and spontaneous
verses, always with an astonishing imagination, irony and sense of
humour. You´ll find them here!
